How the two words are related

Loanword

Borrowed between the languages (or by both from a third).

Fāris and פרס are the same ancient name for Persia. Hebrew פָּרַס already appears in the Bible (Ezra, Esther, Daniel); Arabic says Fāris, with f because Arabic has no p. Neither is a native Semitic root: both go back to Old Persian Pārsa, a name that has barely changed in two and a half thousand years.
