Students' data
Draft of September 30, 2026
This note is for students who use Hebrabic in a class, and for their parents, guardians, and teachers. It explains, in plain words, what Hebrabic stores and who can see it. Our Privacy Policy has the full details.
Without an account
Most of Hebrabic works without an account. Then nothing about the student is sent to us: progress is saved only in the browser on that device, and no cookies are set.
What we store when a student joins a class
To join a class, a student needs an account. We then store:
- their name and email address, and how they sign in (an emailed link, Google, or a password stored as a one-way hash);
- the classes they joined, with the dates they joined and left;
- their learning activity while signed in: which lessons, drills, dialogues, and quizzes they did, when, and their score where there is one;
- their learning progress, copied from the browser (flashcards, quiz totals, completed lessons, and display preferences);
- their sessions, with the IP address and browser they came from, to keep the account secure;
- a customer record at Stripe, our payment provider, with their name and email address, created with every account so that a subscription is possible later (students in a class never need to pay).
We don't ask for a date of birth, address, phone number, or photo. We show no ads, set no tracking cookies, and never sell data. Speaking practice runs in the browser, which may send the student's voice to its maker's speech service; Hebrabic gets only the recognized text and doesn't store recordings.
Who can see it
- The student, who can download all of it from the Account page.
- The class teacher: the student's name, email address, and activity in the class from the day they joined — never from before — and which assignments they finished. Teachers can export this as a spreadsheet.
- For a school's classes, the school's Hebrabic admins, who see the same for all the school's classes.
- Our staff only when needed to run or support the service, and the companies that host and operate Hebrabic for us (listed in the school data processing agreement).
Other students in the class can't see each other's names, emails, or results.
How long we keep it
We keep the account and its data until it is deleted. When a student leaves a class, or the teacher removes them, the teacher stops seeing them straight away; the student's own progress stays in their account. [Automatic deletion of inactive student accounts, and what happens when a school's subscription ends, to be decided.]
Leaving and deleting
- A student can leave a class at any time from their Account page.
- A student can delete their account from the Account page; we email a confirmation link first. Deleting removes the profile, progress, activity, and class memberships.
- A teacher can remove a student from a class.
- A school can ask us to delete its students' data.
For parents and guardians
If your child uses Hebrabic through their school, the school decides how it is used and has an agreement with us about their data. To see, correct, or delete your child's data, you can ask the school, or write to us at [privacy contact email — until one is set, hello@hebrabic.com]. We may need to confirm that you are the child's parent or guardian before acting on a request.
Age thresholds and the parental-consent process to be defined with counsel for each country where schools use Hebrabic.
