The job title itself isn't shared: Hebrew's גנן comes from native גן 'garden', unrelated to bustānī. But the word riding underneath it is — bustānī is built on the Persian loanword بستان (see the garden entry), and Hebrew independently borrowed that very same Persian bōstān, 'place of fragrance', as בוסתן, 'orchard'. Parallel loans into both languages, not a shared Semitic root — the same story as qubṭān/קפטן (captain) below.
