Arabic root

ل-ع-ن

From لعن, 'to curse' — يَلْعَن, 'may (God) curse', which dialect says with the l and n swapped: yinʿal. 'Curse your religion' sounds heavier in translation than it lands in daily speech, where it's a stock exclamation of frustration, closer to 'damn it' than a real blasphemy. Israeli slang borrowed it whole, spelling with an extra initial א.
