Same Semitic root, same meaning — you already know this word.

Arabic root

د-و-س

Hebrew root

ד-ו-ש

This is the real Hebrew cousin of dāsa: hollow root د-و-س / ד-ו-ש, 'to tread, trample, thresh' — Deuteronomy's ox treading out the grain is doing exactly what dāsa describes. Don't confuse it with the unrelated-looking دَرَسَ (darasa, 'to study'), which drifted from 'thresh' to 'study' and happens to echo Hebrew דרש instead — two separate roots telling two separate, equally true stories (see the app's root families for that one).
